Intuitive Knowledge - Engaged Employees-Aligned Culture

AS ABOVE ~ SO BELOW

Neuroscience and cellular biology tells us that 90-99% of what drives results is stored in the subconscious. Similarly, most of what drives performance is hidden in the unseen; in the imbedded beliefs, habits and assumptions that underpin corporate culture.

Corporations have been rocked to the core with  high turnover, ethical breaches, talent shortages, increased absenteeism and health care costs, employee disengagement, gaps in performance, gender and age, and retention issues at all levels. While the organization is busy addressing the 10% that sits on the surface, there is a deeper dynamic that continues to operate unhindered.

The beliefs that formed the business culture, once institutionalized, go underground and then operate undetected. The signals at the surface indicate when the foundation is cracking yet the focus is on trying to fix the cracks.

What are the signals it is time to change?

Inability to engage Gen Y, leadership gaps, stress-related illness, slow to market, emphasis on productivity over nurturing key relationships, measuring what doesn't count.

Addressing the capacity of a company's ability to keep pace with the increasing speed of change is a direct function of their ability to reflect, review and re-calibrate the underlying beliefs, assumptions, systems and procedures that form the cultural foundation of the company.

Change the thinking and you change the capacity to achieve the results.

When was the last time you were deep in thought, arrived at a destination and had no idea how you got there? Your subconcious took over the wheel, just like your company's culture does when leadership is busy strategizing.

Business cultures operate according to the same scientific principles that drive personal and professional results. Spiritual intelligence: the capacity to bring the Whole Self to work engages employees through their heart-what they care about. Shifting from motivating to inspiration requires both a deep sense of care for the employee and a high level of self and organizational awareness.

"More than ever before, leadership depends on self-motivation and personal choice... the ability of many different people to lead becomes critical to the organization ... it is important for all leaders to smoke the monsters out of their closets, all their fears and inadequacies, early in the monsters out of their closets, all their fears and inadequeacies, early on the trek." - Navigating the Badlands, Mary O'Hara Devereaux p. 90-91.

Adapt or Die

With the focus on economic crisis and little else it is time to shift perspective and see the crisis for what it is... an opportunity to evolve. To that end I interviewed Jay Bragdon, author of Profit for Life and investment advisor for high net worth families. His forty years of research reveals that companies which value life as a core tenet for existence far outperform their counterparts. Even those companies (4% of the global picture) can evolve but the ones that have the most opportunity have one foot in triple bottom line and the other in command and control.

To activate the imperative to use these times constructively Part 3: Adapt or Die is now posted on www.management-issues.com/2009/3/12/podcast/adapt-or-die.asp

If you have any feedback my Twitter name is EPDawna or feel free to comment on my blog at http://EvolutionaryProvocateur.typepad.com. Each Friday on my blog, I have also been publishing the story of one executive's journey through crisis to a more enlightened level of self-leadership. Only by working together can we assist companies in shifting to a higher level of leadership and innovation.
