Business has been slow to catch on to a changing outside world. Step into a traditionally run company and the reality on the inside is totally different from what you’ll find in a more ‘agile’ or highly networked company. That’s why, when I started my new Insight to Action podcast, I began with a conversation with twice nominated for the Nobel, prolific author, and global leader in systems Dr. Ervin Laszlo called ‘What is Reality?‘ also the title of his new book. Reality is a construct of the worldview you hold, the level of consciousness that filters your perception and the beliefs formed through your experience with the world.
Worldview originates from the German Weltanschauung [velt-ahn-shou-oo ng] meaning “a comprehensive conception or image of the universe and of humanity’s relation to it.” – Dictionary.com
Is business keeping pace with reality?
Executive decision makers may or may not be aware of an accelerating collapse of tried and relied-upon systems that are incapable of handling either complexity or speed. Chances are employees and new hires see the fall coming. Looking ahead the CEO of Zuora provides an example in this article where he points out that a technology employment crisis is looming. Between robotics and automation, it’s estimated that 5 million jobs will disappear. Will the decisions on what to automate and what to leave to humans be made wisely? It depends on whether the critical importance of intuition in decision making is recognized. One thing for sure, neither the executives making high stakes decisions nor the labour force is prepared.
So what does this all mean?
For starters, it means that personally inspired leadership is key to your own sense of well-being and stability. It also means that signing up for growth is an imperative. And it means that your awareness of what makes your reality, what forces shape it, and what lies beyond the boundaries (some call it a bubble) gives you clarity you can’t get when sitting inside a protected shell.
We are, as Dr. Ervin Laszlo explains, at the intersection of Mastering the Split in Human Consciousness otherwise known in science as a ‘bifurcation’. Here’s the full conversation:
